So I said to him, "Barak, I know Abe Lincoln, and you aint him."

You cannot help the poor by destroying the rich.
You cannot strengthen the weak by weakening the strong.
You cannot bring about prosperity by discouraging thrift.
You cannot lift the wage earner up by pulling the wage payer down.
You cannot further the brotherhood of man by inciting class hatred.
You cannot build character and courage by taking away people's initiative and Independence.
You cannot help people permanently by doing for them, what they could and should do for themselves.

Before the First Frost

Before it started getting cold my hubby and I were out junking on a Saturday like we always do. We were at this yard sale mostly guy stuff so I sat in the car. That's when I spotted this huge spider by the guys mailbox. I have seen some big spiders but this one tops my list. I wonder if they yard sale guy knows its right by his mailbox. He might get a Big surprise getting his mail one day.

Creepy Spider Halloween Card

Halloween is quickly approaching and I am trying to get a jump on it. Although I am not very fast at anything. I just love this card. It totally creeps me out! I had so much fun making it. Halloween is my favorite holiday. I especially love roasting pumpkin seeds and seeing all the little goasts and goblins running around collecting candy.

Egg Update

I did some research on the 2 bird nests we found in our yard and found out they are chickadee's. We watched and watched for a couple weeks. We saw the cute little birds going in and out of the nests. Then nothing. It seems and though the cute little birds have abandoned the nests. According to what I read the eggs should have hatched in approximately 2 weeks. It is way past that. Now we just have nests with eggs. How sad no cute little birds will come.

Montana Way Of Life

One thing about living in Montana is you have to collect wood all summer to keep warn all winter. It is a lot of hard work, but when you are sitting by the fire on a cold and snowy evening it is well worth all the hard work. Plus your heating bill isn't out the roof.

New Cards

Finally got some get up and go to make some new cards. Enjoy! I just love the We Mooved card. I created it on my computer in Illustrator. It was so much fun. I wish I could move so I could pass them out with my new address on the inside.
The It's All Down Hill From Here card is a custom card for someones 40th birthday. I can also change the age on the flag to any age. What a great card!
The I See You're Swigin Up In Years is also a custom card for a D.O.T (Department of Transportation) officer. This card was a tough one, but once I came up with the idea it was a blast to make.
I am also trying to get a jump on Halloween. Slow it goes though.
My Midnight Trees Card made it in a Etsy Treasury. Take a Peek;) http://www.etsy.com/treasury_list_west.php?room_id=64250

Midnight Trees

Finally a new card. I love this card. The trees appear to be at night with a beautiful metallic blue background.
I bought a Cricut personal cutting machine today and I am so excited to try it out. I am hoping my card making will move along a little faster if I don't have to cut out every little thing. The card above is cut out with my little marshmellow fingers and it took quite some time. I know the Cricut wont cut out such detailed items but I plan to use it for lettering and other simple things. I just love getting new crafting toys. It makes me feel like a little kid. If any of you other crafters have a Cricut please feel free to comment about it and let me know how you like yours.

My Mountain of Books traded for Someone elses Mountain of Books

Today I joined PaperBack Swap. I plan on trading My Mountain of Books that I have read for another Mountain of Books I want to read. It was so easy to join. I just went to http://www.paperbackswap.com/index.php signed up and listed 10 paperbacks I have already read. Instantly I received 2 credits. Which means I can order 2 books of my choosing. The sender pays the postage, so I get my two books for nothing. Now when someone orders one of my listed books I pay the postage to send the book to them and I receive a credit which means I can get another book. Easy as that. You get your books for the price of the postage. No hidden fees or gimmicks. This is great because I just started reading the Joanna Brady Mysteries by J.A. Jance and I can't seem to find them all at my library and I didn't really want to pay full retail for them.

Look What We Found

My husband went to cover up the 4 wheeler with a tarp he left on the ground for a week and surprise underneath was this nest with an egg in it. We put the tarp back over the nest and wondered why the bird would build a nest on the ground where all kind of creatures could get to that precious egg. The next day we looked under the tarp and surprise another egg. Well now we need the tarp, so we took a bucket and cut a door in it so the mother bird can get into check on the eggs. This morning I saw her coming out of the bucket which is great. I was worried she might not go back to the nest since we disturbed the tarp. I hope nothing gets the eggs. Like a snake or a skunk. I will keep and eye on the nest and keep you all posted. Oh by the way the eggs are white with brown spots. Anybody have any idea what kind of chicks might hatch?

I started an Art Fire Shop yesterday. I wanted to start the shop to see if I can attract a different kinds of shopper. So far I have noticed more hits on certain cards than when I had them in my Etsy store. Some differences already. I will note other differences in the future. Yikes! We have Bats!

Just this week I noticed some droppings on our balcony. Of course we thought it was mice, so we set traps with peanut butter......nothing.......decon........nothing........not even touched, so we made a bucket trap........nothing............ but there were some droppings on the plate of the bucket trap. Which how could the mice be on the plate and not fall into the bucket? Hmmmm. Now we were hearing all kind of squeaking in the middle of the night. Stupid mice out on the balcony having a party. The next night my husband had to get up at 3:00am for work and we could hear the squeaking, so we went out on the balcony in the dark and then turned on the flash light to see if we could sneak a peak at the mice. Yikes we were dive bombed by bats! They have taken up residence under the balcony eve. How do you get rid of bats was the first question. I researched it online the next day. We don't want to kill them because they eat all kinds of pesky insect, so we are building them a bat box. A home of their own. I love the Internet. You can find out just about anything and saving us a exterminator bill.

A Break From Card World

Today I took a break from making cards. I spent most of the day at my local library reading the New Yorker and looking for books I have yet to find at yard sales. My mom a former librarian would have been proud. When I was a youngster I never went to the library. I suppose I was rebelling because my mom worked there. Now I am older and my mom has passed and I have learned to love the library. I also love that you can do several features online. Like reserve a book from another library, renew your checked out books or download a variety of books to your MP3 player. The best part about the library is its FREE!

Happy Father's Day to all you Dads out there!

I sent my dad the card above. He thought it was cute. He said it looked very professional, therefore I feel very proud of this card. I drew it, inked it and watercolored it. Oh and the idea was all mine also. I wish I could come up with ideas like this every day. I would love to illustrate all my cards using mixed media. I know practice practice. The best advice I have for myself is to draw everyday. A goal I must meet!

Junkin Day

Today is Saturday, so my husband and I get up early and go to all the garage sales in our area. If it is winter time we hit all the pawn shops and antique stores. We call it junkin and we love it. Today we didn't find much. I bought some cork tiles for my studio wall and a book. I love to get all the books on my reading list at yard sales for a quarter or fifty cents. Much cheaper than buying them at the book store. In the winter I use our local library. We have a saying though......"If we can't us it or we don't need it we don't buy it". No since in recycling junk. Some Saturdays we fill my little truck up and some Saturdays we come home empty. Either way it is fun and something we enjoy doing together. What do you do on Saturday morning?

Flag Card

Today I made this cool Flag Card.
I used glitter cardstock and holographic tissue paper, so when the light shines through it has a sort of stain glass look. I made this card once before using plain white cardstock and plain tissue paper. I turned out nice, but this one has more pizazz!

My Creative Process

This is a custom order I did for someone born on the 4th of July

I though I would start my first post with how I go about making my cards. I keep a Idea Notebook. I take it everywhere. Get an idea, sketch it or write it down or it's gone in my case. Sometimes in the middle of the night I get up and jot down an idea. Drives my husband nuts. In the morning I sit at my desk with a cup of Jo and work on my Idea Notebook. I do this until my brain hurts or I run out of ideas. If I don't have any ideas in the morning I have my notes so I just thumb through and find an idea for a card that looks fun and get started.
I don't really have any set style of cards that I make. Some I draw, ink and watercolor. Others I cut and paste or design on the computer. I love using alcohol ink, but I haven't perfected the technique quite yet. I also love to Iris fold. I enjoy a variety of techniques and you will see that variety in my Etsy Store. So be sure to take a look.
