I did some research on the 2 bird nests we found in our yard and found out they are chickadee's. We watched and watched for a couple weeks. We saw the cute little birds going in and out of the nests. Then nothing. It seems and though the cute little birds have abandoned the nests. According to what I read the eggs should have hatched in approximately 2 weeks. It is way past that. Now we just have nests with eggs. How sad no cute little birds will come.

Look What We Found

My husband went to cover up the 4 wheeler with a tarp he left on the ground for a week and surprise underneath was this nest with an egg in it. We put the tarp back over the nest and wondered why the bird would build a nest on the ground where all kind of creatures could get to that precious egg. The next day we looked under the tarp and surprise another egg. Well now we need the tarp, so we took a bucket and cut a door in it so the mother bird can get into check on the eggs. This morning I saw her coming out of the bucket which is great. I was worried she might not go back to the nest since we disturbed the tarp. I hope nothing gets the eggs. Like a snake or a skunk. I will keep and eye on the nest and keep you all posted. Oh by the way the eggs are white with brown spots. Anybody have any idea what kind of chicks might hatch? Thursday, June 25, 2009
Yikes! We have Bats!

Just this week I noticed some droppings on our balcony. Of course we thought it was mice, so we set traps with peanut butter......nothing.......decon........nothing........not even touched, so we made a bucket trap........nothing............ but there were some droppings on the plate of the bucket trap. Which how could the mice be on the plate and not fall into the bucket? Hmmmm. Now we were hearing all kind of squeaking in the middle of the night. Stupid mice out on the balcony having a party. The next night my husband had to get up at 3:00am for work and we could hear the squeaking, so we went out on the balcony in the dark and then turned on the flash light to see if we could sneak a peak at the mice. Yikes we were dive bombed by bats! They have taken up residence under the balcony eve. How do you get rid of bats was the first question. I researched it online the next day. We don't want to kill them because they eat all kinds of pesky insect, so we are building them a bat box. A home of their own. I love the Internet. You can find out just about anything and saving us a exterminator bill.
